Marcus "Conan" Silveira was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in December of 1964.  He is the oldest of three children including younger siblings Marcelo and Claudia.  Conan started training jiu-jitsu and judo at the age of 8.  Master Carlson Gracie Sr. nicknamed him "Conan" because of his large size and the name stuck with him ever since.  Conan also practiced judo as a child and was taught by professor Petrucio Monteiro.  A few years later he also took up "freestyle" training taught by professors Roberto Leitao Sr. and Paulo Roberto Carvalho (a.k.a. Boca).

In 1983 Conan enlisted in the special forces in Rio and spent the next 3 years there.  Thought-out the years he never abandoned his training and love for martial arts and had received his black belts in both martial arts.  In the beginning of 1989 Conan moved to Miami, Florida excited about staring his life in America.  Soon after he arrived in South Florida Conan registered for English classes at Miami Dade Community College and was given a scholarship in judo.  He joined the judo team and was instructed by professor Jack Williams, and soon after won the national colligate.
Finally in 1991 the "Conan Silveira Jiu-Jitsu Academy" opened in Miami Beach with great success.  Younger brother Marcelo "Brutus" Silveira received his black belt from his brother and also was teaching at the academy.  In 1995 the "No Rules" fights were being fought in the U.S. and Japan and were being broadcast on pay-per-view for the world to watch.  "Conan" was asked to participate in the fights and had years of success in the sport, including many heavyweights titles.
